Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. This Lambic beer is brewed from 40% unmalted wheat, 60% of barleymalt, aged hops and wild yeasts collected from our coolship and is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name.
- 750 ml. corked and caged glass bottle.
- Old Gueuze is a blend of lambics that undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle.
- A wine-like sour ale with notes of grapefruit and ginger.
- 7% ABV
- Imported from Belgium.
How to Get It
Oude Geuze Boon Black Label is a monument of taste with an alcohol content of 7%. It’s a blend of 90% mild 18 month-old lambic, 5% strong 3 year-old beer, and 5% very young lambic, which provides fermentable sugars and wild yeasts. All their beers are aged in oak casks, mixed in a vessel of 25,000 liters and chilled. Before bottling, they bring the mix to fermentation temperature. The bottles are then placed in an air-conditioned room, which leads to a secondary fermentation in the bottle. This is when the lambic becomes gueuze. After several months of aging in the bottle, the gueuze develops its delicate flavor. Want to know the bottling date? Simply subtract 20 years from the “best before” date!
Taste carefully and you will uncover a fruity grapefruit and ginger flavor with a hint of Muscat grapes. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the wholehearted body and the sublime finish – an explosion of Germanic and Romance cultures.
